Plans for 2011!

New Species!

We are cutting back on our Hahn's Macaws, and other New World species and focusing more on the Poicephalus birds. To that end, we are planning to offer Red-Bellieds, Orange vested Senegals, and Meyers Parrots as well as Timneh Greys in 2010-2011.

Step 5: Reserving a baby

1. Be of legal age.
If you are not 18+ years old, I will require your parents signature and approval for you to purchase a bird. In effect, your parents will be entering into a contractual agreement with me on your behalf. I will not sell a bird to you if you're under 18 without your parents consent.

2. Check Availability!
Look on our availability page to see if we have the type of bird you wish to purchase either hand-feeding now or fertile eggs. If the species of bird you are seeking is not listed on our availability page, then we don't currently have eggs or babies offered, feel free to email us and ask if we're expecting that species this year. Every breeding season is different so we cannot predict exact availabilities of each species, but we keep our site regularly updated. If the species you are seeking is not listed on our available list, then it is not currently available for deposit. However, we would be more than happy to add you to a waiting list for that species!

3. Read our Policy Page, Health Guarrantee and the FAQ page!
All three pages must be read through and agreed upon before I sell you a baby.

4. Fill out the online Reservation Form.
This information lets me know YOUR information so I can hold your baby.

5. Send a Deposit for the bird you're buying.
You can paypal me a non-refundable deposit at tina@fofaviary.net This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
You can pay your deposit with a personal check made out to Tina Moore.
You can send me a money order or cashier's check made out to Tina Moore.

6. Deposits & Payments:

All deposits and monies paid towards a bird, are non-refundable. Choose wisely!

We will accept a minimum of 25% for deposit (of the bird's listed price) to reserve any baby that we have currently available.  You also may make additional installment payments while your baby is growing if you wish.

We accept   though  . For PayPal, please use the email address as follows: tina@fofaviary.net This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . You may also request us to invoice you through paypal for your deposit. If you'd like to be invoiced, please note this in the comments section of your reservation form.

We also accept deposits and balance payments with money orders and cashier's checks. If you wish to use these more conventional methods, then please indicate payment method on your reservation form. You'll have 7 days to mail us a 25% deposit (personal checks are ok for deposits) or use PayPal. If we do not receive your deposit within 7 days, the baby will once again be available to other people for sale.

  • We DO NOT accept deposits on babies until they're 2 weeks old. If we have a baby that's under 2 weeks old in the species you want, you will be placed on a waiting list for that species. People on our waiting list will be given first opportunity to purchase these babies when they're 2 weeks of age. IF you're on a waiting list, you have 7 days to decide if you want to reserve the baby offered. If you do not decide within 7 days, you will be removed from the waiting list.
  • We DO NOT take any deposits for future babies or eggs.

Please do not send a reservation form without an indication of payment as we cannot process an order without a deposit.

7. Shipping & Pick up Availability:

If air shipping is required, please indicate whether you have a preference as to shipping arrival time or day (we cannot guarantee specific times nor days but we will try to match your preference. We do not ship on week-ends, normally shipping Monday through Thursday).

We normally air ship through Continental Airlines or Delta Airlines. Delta has weather limitations, and usually has longer flight times. Continental ships anytime as they're set up for cold and hot weather pet transport, and they usually have very fast flight times.  We will always try to ship via Continental first. You can read more about shipping - HERE.

You must be within driving distance of an airport that Delta or Continental services. If you are unsure if your closest airport falls into this category please call Delta at 1-888-736-3738 or Continental at 1-800-575-3335 .  Shipping through Delta Pets First is not offered when the outside temperature is unsafe for a parrot to endure, at either end. Continental has increased protection for pets in air conditioned or heated cargo areas, so shipping through Continental is available throughout the year.

If you are close enough for a local pick up, we can certainly accomodate you! We will be happy to meet Solano/Yolo Co. residents in the parking lot of IKEA in Sacramento or SMF airport. If you're from the South Bay/Contra Costa Co. area, we will meet in the parking lot of Target in Pleasant Hill, CA (closet to Toys R Us). Please have a carrier with you or purchase one from us if you're interested in picking up locally. We do not deliver before 9am or after 6pm, or weekends unless agreed upon in advance. Weekend and night time (after 7pm) will cost an additional $20.00, as I have to arrange an emergency hand-feeder to come in and take care of the baby birds while I'm delivering yours!

8. Gender Testing:

Generic "Just to see what you've got" DNA testing is included in birds $300.00 and up.

Specific Gender Testing: This is becoming the bane of my business existence. Of course, I want you to have the baby of your dreams, and sometimes that means a specific gender. However, I do not test babies until they are a minimum 2 weeks old, IF, I have the egg shell, and 5-8 weeks old if I draw blood for the DNA. This means that a baby is potentially 6 weeks old by the time we know if it's a male or a female. That means that find out a specific gender is making everyone on my waiting list for a baby.

From now on, if you want a specific gender, the cost will be $30.00 on top of the DNA test fee of $20.00 if the bird costs under $300.00. Even if the baby is not the gender you require, the fee is still owned, to cover the extra time and potential loss of sale by making people wait.

This fee is not incurred if the baby in question is already gender tested! So, while you can request a gender, I will not hold that bird for you until the results come back in. Take your chances, if you must. However, if you do reserve a baby and put a deposit on it, and list that you'd prefer a specific gender, if there is an available baby that hasn't been reserved yet, I will assign it to you without a charge.

Additional stuff:

If you have specific requests for your order (DNA sexing, health certificate (if required), or wings trimmed, please note this also. We would love for all our birds (especially our Greys) to be free-flight, however we understand that's not always workable. So, we recommend that you ask us to trim the bird's wings after fledging so that we can get your baby used to it more easily and safely, before they go to their new home.

If you do not indicate that you want wings trimmed, we will not trim them!

What happens next?

You will receive an invoice and receipt for deposit/payment via email when you place your deposit. Before the baby is weaned, we'll mail out a hard copy of your receipt for your deposit (with our written complete health guarantee), a sheet of diet recommendations, a general information sheet, and a hatch certificate with closed band number, hatch date, nursery number, and parent-pair number. If DNA sexing is ordered, the sexing certificate from Zoogen will be mailed to you when it is available or will already be in your baby packet.

We will call or email you when your bird is fully weaned so that the balance can be arranged (we ask for cashier's check, money order, or PayPal for the final balance, please- sorry, no personal checks without pre-approval.)

Payment of the balance is due within seven days of weaning notification.

Be sure you're ready, before you send a deposit to us.

Deposits on babies are NOT REFUNDABLE.

Please do not ask for a refund once you have placed an order with us for currently available babies.

PLEASE NOTE! We cannot predict exact weaning time in advance on an individual baby. We abundance wean our babies and sometimes they wean a bit earlier or later than normal. Abundance weaning allows for a more confident, more socialized bird and it's to your benefit to be patient for this weaning process to happen. We know you're excited and want your baby, but keep in mind, you'll hopefully have this bird for decades - a bit of patience now is worthwhile!

If you wish to be put on a waiting list for future availability, please email us and let us know which species you would like to be on the list for. You will then be emailed a week before we put new babies up for reservation so you can choose first. If you do not respond to the early notification, after the week, the baby will be available to the next person on the waiting list and then open to anyone.
